About Us

OrgSpaces.org is a website which was launched in 2001 at the height of the Nonprofit Space Crisis in San Francisco.  Nonprofit organizations were priced out of the market and were forced to leave the area.  In response, the City and County of San Francisco and other Foundations formed a partnership to help nonprofits stay in the City and continue to provide the important programs and services that were so valuable to individuals and families.  This partnership launched OrgSPACES.org.

In 2005, the Northern California Community Loan Fund ("NCCLF") took on the financial and operational management of orgSPACES.org.  Between 2005 and 2008, we estimate that hundreds, if not thousands, of nonprofits have accessed the site.  We received formal (through surveys) and informal feedback that the website provided very timely and useful information and resources.  However, the site was in need of upgrades to improve its functionality and collaborative potential and to expand its reach outside of the San Francisco Bay Area.  In 2007, NCCLF received a grant from the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund of the U.S.Treasury.  This grant was provided to support the upgrading and expansion of OrgSPACES.org services to better service nonprofit organizations in Northern and Central California.

Subsequently, in 2009, the website was dramatically updated to support nonprofit organizations in Northern and Central California who are searching for Meeting and Event Space, Leased Space or Permanent Space (Buy or Build) to house their programs, services and administration.

The re-launching of the site has been made possible from the combined resources of the CDFI Fund and the Northern California Community Loan Fund.  However, the long term operation of the site will be sustained through expanded financial and non-financial partnerships.
